You can easily give to so many
As if it was meant to be, one Swiss volunteer left (Pascal) and the other one took over his place. Just like Pascal, Ramona was only with us for a short while and like Pascal, Ramona did a hell of a job. In this review she looks back on her time with Local Dreamers.
”George Washington once said: ”Time is too expensive to be wasted. It should be seen as the most valuable gift.” So what did I exactly do in the final terms of my teacher studies? Exactly, I had been wasting time with repeating unnecessary contents over and over again. All in all, after these four and a half years, I felt the urgent need of doing something useful and so I decided to volunteer abroad. I was still totally convinced that working with children and youths had been the reason why I wanted to become a teacher. I was looking forward to the smiling faces, the shining eyes, the activities in classroom, the games and last but not least the impartation of values, attitudes and contents.
Now after a month of teaching with Local Dreamers, I know that this was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I really appreciate the fact that I was able to produce, create, explain and plan contents, texts, lessons, presentations and trainings not only for the sake of them only beeing produced and never used, but that people really cared about and also showed how much they appreciate the effort.
Even though the days were very intense in every aspect, each minute contributed to this very special and unforgetable experience. From grammar inputs, group conversations, presentations, Spanglish to meetings over how to prepare and hold soccer trainings as well as learning children how to swim. Everything was included in my very valuable volunteer work. I really got back the feeling that finally I used my time for things that really matter, acitivities which assist the local people in their personal development and admitedly not only their development, but mine to an even degree. They broadened my horizon in various aspects as for example cultural habits I got to know, Spanish they learnt me and the whole collaboration in general.
In conclusion I just loved working with Local Dreamers and especially with every single person involved in the project and class. Every moment will be memorable and if I will ever have the change, I would love to return.”
