The LD offices are full of new faces! Elsemieke Grooters is one of them. The social science graduate is replacing Miranda Mosch as our volunteer coordinator in The Netherlands. Although Miranda’s departure – she found a new professional challenge – is a great loss, we are very, very happy to present Elsemieke as her successor.
Hola! Que tal?
My name is Elsemieke, born in the Dutch country side, leaving for the capital as soon as possible. I couldn’t wait to discover the world. This month I start working for Local Dreamers as Intern and Volunteer Coordinator.
Travelling to Latin-America was an amazing and unforgettable experience for me. Not only for being abroad for the first time at a young age and not speaking a word of Spanish, but especially for being embraced by the warm and diverse culture. During my internship in Guatemala I worked closely with the local community that showed me how to live life to the fullest. Which awakened my interest in the Latin American way of life and prompted me to do a masters’ thesis in Bogotá, Colombia.
During my stay, I fell in love with the music, the dance and the language. The memories of the beautiful times I spent, still gives me butterflies. All the places I have seen and the people I have met, have a special place in my heart.
Concluding, in my idea, to get to know yourself the best is to go abroad on your own for a while; To get to know a country and a culture profoundly is to do an internship or volunteer work. After such amazing personal experiences I am super excited to start my job as Volunteer and Intern Coordinator at Local Dreamers. I will be preparing and supervising all new explorers before they start their journeys in Ecuador and I am thrilled to do so.
